Breast Massage and Hand Expression

Had a baby? Get to know your boobs! (Excuse me: get to know your breasts/chest tissue.) Breast/chest massage and hand expression are great skills for all lactating parents to learn. Hand expression can help you get milk to rub into your sore nipples, express more milk than with just a breast pump, even get you out of a jam if you’re away from your baby and your pump! There are many ways to do it; experiment and you’ll find what works best for you and your body.

Maya Bolman, IBCLC, has a great video; as does Dr. Jane Morton at Stanford University. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!
